MELR inaugurates Audit Committee

The Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Bright Wireko-Brobby, has urged Auditors to work according to the guidance of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) to help the Ministry meet the increasing demand for transparency and accountability.

According to the Deputy Minister, the mandate of the Committee requires the Management of the Ministry in the implementation of recommendations contained in the Internal Audit Reports, Auditors-General’s Reports, Decisions of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament and Reports of Internal Monitoring Unit.

The Hon. Deputy Minister stated this at a ceremony to inaugurate a 5-member Audit Committee at the Ministry’s conference room in Accra.

The Committee is made up of members of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General.

The Members of the Committee are Mrs. Mercy Naa Aku Offei-Koranteng, Internal Audit Agency; Emmanuel Oteng, ICAG; Emmanuel Adjorlolo, Ministry of Finance; John Osei, IAA and Ms. Helena Frencher, a Senior State Attorney.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Deputy Minister assured members that the Ministry would provide the needed support and further provide the committee the utmost cooperation to enable them function effectively and efficiently.

On his part, the Acting Director General of the IAA, Mr. Ransford Agyei who swore-in the members advised them to be fair and diligent in their duties in order to protect the public purse.

He also encouraged them to be abreast with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), adding that the Committee has the power to demand financial report from the Ministry from the internal Auditors.

Members of the Committee pledged to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
