MINISTER FOR PENSIONS SWEARS IN NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF NPRA

The new Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions and Regulations Authority (NPRA), Mr John Kwaning Mbroh, was sworn into office by the Minister for Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, on Thursday, 1st February 2024 at the Conference Hall of the Ministry.

The new CEO took the oath of allegiance and secrecy before the Board of Directors of the National Pensions and Regulatory Authority.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed Mr Mbroh as the new CEO due to compulsory retirement of Mr. Hayford Attah Krufi.

On his part, the Minister for Pensions, Hon. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah stated that, the new CEO is coming at a time when the pensions space is turbulent, adding that the Labour Unions are raising issues on pensions in respect to the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to payment of deductions on monthly basis.

The Minister advised that the new CEO will have to work closely with the Ministry of Finance to stem the tide   especially on the Tier 2 Pensions. He stated “when payment of pensions delay, it does so to the disadvantage of the would be pensioner therefore Mr. Mbroh, has the responsibility to manage the future of every Ghanaian when they retire”.

Hon. Baffour Awuah tasked him to work with the Cocoa Board to remove the bottlenecks regarding Pensions of cocoa farmers which has been on the drawing board for too long.

He commended the Board of Directors for sowing solidarity with the new CEO and this shows their cooperation and willingness to work with him.

He further explained that at the end of the year, his performance will be assessed with respect to the innovations he brings on board the Pensions industry stating that his predecessor, Mr. Hayford Attah Krufi successfully was transferred  funds  from the Temporary Pensions Fund Account into individual Pensions Scheme.

In his speech acceptance, Mr. Kwaning Mbroh expressed deep gratitude to the President, the Honourable Minister, the Board members, staff of NPRA and the Ministry for unique honour done him by this appointment and he assured everyone that the Pensions Sector would be his number one priority.
